The atmosphere is approachable and unpretentious with attentive, friendly staff who help keep the experience smooth. Service tends to be quick, fitting for visitors in between appointments or for those following a walking tour through the historic center. The approachable English spoken by the team also makes it easy for visitors new to Genoa.

Food-wise, the menu is anchored in classic Genoese and Italian flavors. You’ll find reliable comfort dishes like margherita pizza and hearty baked lasagna, as well as local favorites such as trofie al pesto and focaccia topped with cheese. Dishes arrive in generous portions without fuss, well-suited for a midday refuel after exploring the city’s sights.

Beyond the kitchen, Cafe HB 1969 stands out for its drinks selection. From refreshing spritzes to well-crafted cocktails and a nice variety of beers like pils, it has enough variety to draw a crowd looking for an informal evening hangout. The coffee options, including unique twists like a caffè shakerato with Baileys, make it a welcoming place for a morning or afternoon coffee break, especially paired with a croissant or choco treat.

Visitors appreciate the kind, personable service — one staff member’s attentiveness even included surprising guests with bruschetta on focaccia after multiple visits, highlighting the local warmth you can expect here. This makes it popular with repeat visitors, locals, and travelers alike.

The best times to visit align with typical transit breaks or casual lunches, but it also fits nicely as a relaxed stop for an evening drink given its approachable bar vibe. It’s not flashy or overtly trendy, but rather a straightforward, comfortable spot where the balance of food and drinks caters to a mixed crowd—commuters, friends meeting up, and anyone seeking a genuine taste of Genoa’s everyday flavors and hospitality.

A nice place to stop for a drink, a coffee or if you want to eat something. The place is really nice, very close to the station Genova Principe. Service is kind and quick. I had a very good Spritz and focaccia genovese with cheese. I also tasted a very good caffè shakerato with Bayleys, good and very refreshing.

The staff here are so lovely. Specially Romina, she is the sweetest person that has ever served me and my friends. She is so helpful! We came here two days in a row and she surprised us with bruschetta on focaccia on our last night. In addition, the cocktails here are amazing and the service is even better! Thank you Romina, you are a super star. She deserves a raise

Went in for a quick lunch after a walking tour of Genoa. Quick service and friendly (English speaking ) staff. My friend and I ordered the margherita pizzas and it came out pretty quickly and was bigger than I expected. The pizza and drink came out at 12€ which is roughly what I expected.

Best authentic Genovese pasta in hip location and with very friendly Chef. Yummy at its best.

Came here for dinner recently—got a table outdoor which was nice since the weather wasn’t too chilly. Started off with the Prosciutto & Mozzarella. For entrees, both the Swordfish with Pesto & Cherry Tomatoes and Pasta alla Carbonara were good—big portions and well flavored! Service was great too!

Went there for dinner today. The carbonara I had was authentic and delicious. Very good service from the English speaking staff too. Reasonable pricing with no cover charge and/or extra fees. Highly recommended.

Great place, if you want to just have a nice drink or eat it’s one of the best attentions we had in Genoa overall. Really fast, and the drinks included some tapas!
